Navy Blue, at the time of its first use in 1748 in the British Navy, it was actually referred to as marina blue.
It was nearly one hundred years later in 1840 when the name Navy Blue was assigned to the shade. The color was also soon adopted by other navies around the globe.
Some people refer to Navy Blue as being the Royal Blue but in fact, we are talking about two different shades of Blue.
Royal Blue, was originally named Queens Blue from around the mid 17th century until 1921. It wasn’t until 1921 that it became known as Royal Blue.
Dark blue shades tend to be serious, professional and none attention seeking, which also represents trust and stability.
These are likely to be characteristics of those who naturally tilt to these shades. It would also suggest someone who is conventional, traditional and conservative in their views.
They naturally like and respect authority, rules, order and hierarchy.
Dark blue can be seen as elegant, rich, sophisticated, intelligent, and old-fashioned.
